Description
May 1, 2016 was the 130th anniversary of Fior d' Italia in San Francisco. American's oldest Italian Restaurant. A true landmark destination for residents and tourists to San Francisco. The restaurant occupied four different locations from 1886 to 1954. From 1954 to 2005 they occupied the glorious corner location, in the heart of the North Beach community, at 601 Union Street, where I have enjoyed many a lunch and dinner. Their Union Street windows looked out onto Washington Square Park (at Union Street and Stockton), and across the grassy park in front of the ornate twin spires of Saints Peter and Paul Church. Also they were minutes away, up the hill, from Coit Tower. A fire the night after a Valentines Day destroyed there home of over fifty years. They did salvage the "old bar" and other items and reopened their acclaimed restaurant (pictured) in the ground floor of the historic San Remo Hotel located at 2237 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA 94133. Reservation are recommend! And, yes, the food is wonderful! Congratulations on your 130th anniversary year... and counting!
