Description
On a street named "Ash" in a central Texas town called Teague, stands a magnificent Magnolia Tree. The town, around the 1850s, first known as Brewer, became a railroad hub and was incorporated in 1906 and was named after Betty Teague. Six blocks north of Main Street is Ash. On Ash is an old Magnolia Tree that could be, if planted in the mid 19th Century, over 150 years old. If planted around the time of the city's incorporation, as Teague, in 1906 it would be 111years old. Its lowest branches were cut-back sometime after the 1950s leaving a haloed wound of calloused growth demonstrating the branch was 20" in diameter. The tree today proudly stands six stories tall and continues to produce it's luscious waxy green leaves, fuzzy seed pods and white velvet blossoms with that distinctive Magnolia fragrance.
