Description
Looking up, above the entrance to The Hall of State building at Fair Park is a magnificent golden Indian. Even as a child having to look even higher up I was always mesmerized by what I thought of as my favorite statue. The Hall of State, completed for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exhibition and then called the State of Texas Building is graced, above its entrance, by an 11-foot tall statue of a Tejas Indian. "Tejas" is an Indian word for "friend/s". Artist Allie Tennant sculpted the statue, cast it in bronze and then cover it in gold leaf.
