The original photograph for this image was taken around Thanksgiving, November 2004 at 3325 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77098 on the campus of Mirabeau B. Lamar Senior High School. This relief map of the State of Texas is on the north-facing facade of the school's auditorium/performance hall. The original building, in the Art Deco style, was built in 1936. It is presumed that the "relief-sculpted" map dates from the same period. In doing some cursory research I was unable to find out what artist or artisan created the map. As I recall, the greenway between the two wide walkways leading up to the triple double-doors of the auditorium had large tree that had grown up in front of the map, making a head-on shot impractical. My original photograph was taken at an upward and oblique angle. I realigned the image for presentation here. I understand the performance hall was renovated several years ago.
