Artist's Description
T his sculpture was designed by Raoul Josett and Jose Martin in 1935 to adorn the1910 era building first used as a coliseum and given its Art Deco look for its use during the Centennial as the administration hall. Over time the building fell in to disuse until it was revived in 2000 as the Womens Museum to display exhibits reflecting the accomplishment of American women. The Spirit of the Centennial sculpture stands in front of mural by Carlo Ciampaglia depicting the Texas century: 1836-1936.
